Non-fiction reviews

These are reviews of non-fiction books for the Australian, the Fairfax papers and the Independent through the 1980s and 1990s.

These reviews put me in touch of the thinking of Barbara Thiering (the historical Jesus), Barry Dickins (his youth), John Updike (memoirs), and others who have now disappeared from the scene.

There were some nice personal moments: I reviewed a book by Ric Throssell, son of Australian author Katherine Susannah Prichard - a mentor of whom David Helfgott had spoken glowingly when I was writing the treatments for the movie Shine, not long before.
