The Murdoch Prerogative

When politicians make bad judgements they are thrown out of office. When businessmen or celebrities do so, they're exposed in the media - with The Australian frequently leading the charge. But when The Australian itself lets its constituency down, all seems to be quietly forgotten.

Perhaps the leading press stories of 2006 have been global warming and the Iraq War. The Australian has long told us the former is a myth and the latter a grand idea. You've now been proven wrong in both regards.

Is there any accountability for The Australian - will there be a retraction, an explanation or an apology - or is there some kind of 'Murdoch prerogative' which doesn't apply to the rest of us?
