Hague trials for the Coalition of the Willing's leaders?
22 May 2007
Re an article on potential jobs for Prime Minister John Howard after the election:
I would have thought a cell at The Hague would be more appropriate.
The chief Nuremberg prosecutor stated that the crime of military aggression was the overarching crime of the Nazis which 'contained' all their other crimes.
He (Justice Jackson) also stated that in making its findings the court was handing its own nations a poisoned chalice: they, too, were now bound by the standards set in those seminal judgments.
So if we take international law at all seriously, trials at The Hague for the US Administration and leaders allied to it is an uncontroversial idea.
